The James G. Baker Observatory at Curby
IS ONLY OPEN TO ACTIVE PAID MEMBERS OF THE LAS
No guests or non-membership use unless the event is open to the public
By visiting the LAS Curby Observatory, visitors agree to abide by the following rules.
1. Alcoholic beverages are not explicitly prohibited in the bylaws, but since we are family oriented, and due to the long drive most of us have to make, it is highly discouraged.
2. Controlled substances except prescription medicines are prohibited.
3. Smoking on the observing field or inside the buildings is not allowed.
4. Fireworks are prohibited.
5. Pets are prohibited,
6. We have neighbors. Please respect their privacy, and try to keep noise to a minimum. In addition, please do not point your lights towards their properties.
7. Please drive slowly on the gravel drive. If the observing field is soft due to recent rain, temporarily park your car on the gravel, offload your equipment onto the field, if any, then park the car in front of the multipurpose building (MPB).
8. If you are not setting up a telescope, please park in front of the MPB.
9. When arriving at night during events, please turn your headlights off. If necessary, use your running lights.
10. We do not have garbage disposal service. Please take your garbage with you.
11. Do not leave your personal food or drinks in the refrigerator.
12. Do not leave items on the observing field as the lawnmower will turn them into hazardous projectiles and useless junk.
13. We are not responsible for your personal equipment and items. Do not leave your telescope in the MPB. If everyone did this, there would be no room for anything else.
14. Please use a flashlight with red lighting when on the field, particularly at events, so it does not disturb others. Red lights also do not disturb your night vision the way white lights do.
15. Please be extremely careful when using lasers at the site NOT to strike airplanes with them. It is a felony to do so, and you can be subject to arrest.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to volunteer (hint hint), you can contact me or any of the board members.
Clear skies,
