The multiverse is the idea that our Universe is just one of a multitude or even infinity of universes each with their own set of physical laws. This idea is rooted in quantum mechanics and cosmology, where the many worlds interpretation where any measurement causes the universe to split into two parallel universes. Models of eternal inflation produce a fractal multiverse, producing bubbles of non-inflating space filled with matter and radiation surrounded by empty space that continues to inflate.
