Join the Louisville Astronomical Society at the PNC Achievement Center in Beckley Creek Park in the Parklands on Saturday, March 16 from 7-10 PM  for the first LAS Parklands Stargazing Party of 2019! From 7-8:30 In the PNC classroom, members of the LAS will be demonstrating Stellarium, a computer program that simulates trips to the planets and the Virtual Moon Atlas which will show the current phase of the moon and tell you the phase of the moon on the day you were born!
You can look through the LAS telescopes or bring yours for incredible images of the craters on the moon, galaxies and double stars. You will learn how to capture astronomical images on your cell phones and see the landing site of Apollo 11 which landed on the moon fifty years ago this July 20. The LAS will have a display of historic documents about the brave astronauts who made it to the moon and back with a computer that only had 36K of memory.
NASA Solar System Ambassador and LAS president Ken Alderson will have his collection of meteorites on display so that you can touch and hold a shooting star that is 4.6 billion years old.
Outside the building, you will find a forest of scopes ready for celestial viewing and the LAS will be happy to help you with yours. This event is free and there is plenty of free parking.
