We are offering a Special EAA Training for volunteers who are setting up for the Derby Eve Mile of Telescopes. Since none of our usual targets are visible, like the moon and planets, our goal is to use EAA (Electronically Assisted Astronomy) to share a few galaxies, clusters and a few planetary nebula with the public.

The training will be scheduled for an hour, but I will be available for however long it takes.

This training is a How-To for setting up and using an EAA camera to share the night sky with the public. We can also discuss the logistics of using a laptop while observing.

It is assumed that attendees know how to set up and use their mounts for visual. We will not be covering that.

The basic needs to do EAA are a scope that will focus with a camera, a mount that has goto and the mount will do simple tracking. You will also need an EAA camera and a laptop. A typical EAA setup would be:

- Goto mount. Alt-az is fine. Equatorial will work as well.
- Optical tube is typically a short focal ratio, i.e. f6 or less, but even f10 will work. A small refractor or SCT is good. Some reflectors and tracking dobs will work, but may not come to focus with a camera. We can test your setup to confirm.
- EAA camera. A typical camera would be a ZWO ASI120 ($160) or better. Mallincam makes models that don't require a laptop.
- Laptop. Most any Windows laptop will work. The biggest challenge is power. We hope to be able to solve that problem.

If you want to be sure you are prepared for EAA and have equipment questions, please give me a call or email. Please leave a message and I will return your call.

Hope to see you there!
